The difficult situation faced by social leaders and human rights defenders in many regions of the country is also felt in the capital of the Republic, where on average every three days a human rights defender or one of our leaders is threatened social. This terrible reality has been evidenced by the Personería of Bogotá DC in several locations, where this year beginning in June we have that at least 45 human rights defenders have reported being victims of threats. In 2021, the entity received 129 complaints, of which 52 were about women. In such important areas of the capital as Ciudad Bolívar, Kennedy, San Cristóbal, Santa Fe, Rafael Uribe Uribe, Bosa and Engativá, the Personería has received the largest number of complaints so far in 2022.That is why it is urgent, as well as mandatory, to surround our social leaders and human rights defenders, guaranteeing their safety in such a way that they can carry out their work without pressure or intimidation. It is up to all the authorities to make the necessary efforts to clarify the facts and prevent this type of action from continuing, as well as to provide security measures, not only in Bogotá but throughout Colombia, taking into account that, according to the United Nations In the country, 43 leaders and human rights defenders have been assassinated this year.Social leaders have been, are and will be key in democracy, in the construction of a fairer and more equitable Colombia.Protecting those who represent these positions in the community, regardless of their condition, ethnicity or region, is an urgent task.In fact, as UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres pointed out during his visit to Colombia last year, it is one of the most important steps in peacebuilding. As guardians of the Rights of all in the capital, we have been working from the Personería so that social leaders and human rights defenders can carry out their work with the guarantees that this requires. In this way, we have forwarded all the cases of threats that we learned about to the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, the Metropolitan Police of Bogotá, the District Secretary of Government and the National Protection Unit, so that from there the pertinent measures can be adopted according to to their competencies.Additionally, we have made interventions before the Ciprat (Intersectoral Commission for the Rapid Response to Early Warnings) to articulate measures for the mitigation of risks warned in the Early Warning System of the Ombudsman's Office. We are permanently monitoring the actions and plans carried out by the District for the prevention of the risks noted, and we participate in the articulation for the prevention of situations that put the integrity of social leaders and human rights defenders at risk.At the Personería de Bogotá we are committed to complying with international mandates and we will continue working so that the defense of the rights of the community does not constitute a risk. And, of course, we need the same commitment from the entire State. We have updated our T&C of the web portal. If you wish to know said update, you can access the T&C by clicking here.Customer service channels Service hours Monday to Friday: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 am to 5:00 pmFor judicial notifications e-mail: juridica@semana.comAll registered trademarks are the property of the respective company or of PUBLICACIONES SEMANA SA The total or partial reproduction of any of the contents that appear here is prohibited, as well as its translation into any language without the written authorization of its owner.
