The channel of all VenezuelansThe Security Council of the United Nations Organization (UN) dedicated this Monday a special session on peacekeeping and the challenges related to new technologies.The Council was further involved in addressing cyber security and the role of information and communication technologies in enhancing the work of the UN.During 2021, the multilateral organization promoted a strategy for the digital transformation of peacekeeping operations, which seeks to maximize the potential of new technologies in order to increase the effectiveness of this work.On that occasion, UN Secretary General António Guterres pointed out that digital tools also pose unknown threats, as seen in the proliferation of violent extremist ideologies on the Internet or in the increase in cyber attacks.In this sense, Guterres specified that new technologies change the magnitude and speed of attacks, as well as the character and nature of violence and destruction in war, with an indelible impact on civilian populations.According to the Prensa Latina web portal, the Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding, Rosemary DiCarlo, is expected to participate in the meeting.
