The municipality, through the “Smart Cities” project, fulfilled five of the 17 UN goals for social development and received the award in the city of Barcelona, ​​Spain.Carmo do Cajuru presented, at the 6th International Forum on Public-Private Partnerships, promoted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (Unece), the case of Carmo do Cajuru, a project that was already known throughout Brazil, now, worldwide.The event, which took place in Barcelona, ​​Spain, between the 4th and 6th of May, brought together partnership programs between the public sector and the private sector in line with the People First logic, which consists of implementing sustainable infrastructure that generate positive impacts for people and the planet.The Smart Cities Project consists of an alliance between a private partner and public authorities for the development and digital transformation for the benefit of the population.This year, the International Forum chose projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).In addition to the Brazilian initiative, projects such as the Waste Energy Compensation Plan, from Senegal and Switzerland;the Urban Bus Platforms and Wellbeing project from Spain, and the Resilience Fund developed in Portugal.According to the mayor of Carmo do Cajuru, Edson Vilela, “many people did not believe in the Smart City Project.How would a municipality of 24 thousand inhabitants develop a public-private partnership?(…) But this project aroused the interest of investors.We have thousands of municipal managers in Brazil who are serious and committed to the population, and it is with the help of the private sector that we are able to speed up projects like this”.In Carmo do Cajuru, the PPP includes five of the 17 UN goals for social development: clean and affordable energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities.The city will have savings of 21 million reais and will stop emitting almost 200 tons of polluting gases per year.Through the partnership, the city renovated 100% of the public lighting, all using LED lamps, which are more economical and efficient.Other PPP services included the installation of solar panels to meet the energy demand of public buildings, in addition to free wi-fi in the squares and a video surveillance network integrated into the Military Police system.AMM Headquarters: Av.Raja Gabaglia, 385 - Cidade Jardim - Belo Horizonte/MGAMM Space: Av.Mayor Américo Gianetti, s/n - General Building - 11th Floor - Serra Verde - Administrative CityWe are 853.
