Here are the features and performance that will appeal to those interested in productivity-focused jobs.Buy Huawei MateBook 16s from Huawei Online StoreWith the MateBook 16 model, which Huawei launched in Turkey earlier this year, it offered a satisfying option for those who want high performance and the opportunity to work comfortably on the big screen, especially in productivity-oriented jobs. After a few months, we meet the Huawei MateBook 16s this time. This model makes remarkable progress over its predecessor, the 16, in a way that does justice to the "s" in its name. The prominent features and comments of this high-end laptop, which seems to be a good option especially for professionals and creative people with the Intel Evo certification, are included in the Huawei MateBook 16s review article and video. We see that the MateBook 16s continues the classic design language of Huawei's laptops. In appearance, this laptop looks no different from its predecessor, the MateBook 16.Since Huawei still prefers the 3:2 aspect ratio screen, the format and dimensions of the computer do not differ at all.Again, it has a surface area of 354mm by 254.9mm.At its thickest part, we see a profile with a value of 17.8 millimeters. With 1.99 kilograms, it is under 2 kilograms, which we can consider as the psychological limit for a laptop.Although large and heavy compared to a standard laptop, the MateBook 16s has no trouble fitting or carrying it in a bag.We did not have any complaints about carrying it by hand in the home or office. The MateBook 16s also comes in space gray. Its aluminum alloy body is at a good point in terms of durability. Its body, which has undergone a process called CNC Ceramic Sandblasting, is both high in appearance and allows you to be comfortable during use and transportation.By the way, another comfort point that we should note is that despite its imposing appearance, the lid can be opened easily with a single finger. While the hinge mechanism feels solid, Huawei ensures that this unit also offers practicality at its best.Huawei has also included the classic keyboard layout in the MateBook 16s, which we see in most other laptops. There is no numeric keypad like the 2022 model MateBook D16, which was launched in Turkey earlier this summer. While Huawei has kept the keyboard layout as on the MateBook 16, there is a notable improvement in the keyboard. That is, the keypress distance has been increased from 1.3 millimeters to 1.5 millimeters.Indeed, when we compare the two models, it is easy to feel that the range of motion is wider on the MateBook 16s.The wider keystroke distance reduces fingertip pressure. In addition, some improvements have been made in the key mechanism that increase the softness. We are currently writing this review with the Huawei MateBook 16s and the keyboard really makes typing more enjoyable. In the meantime, let's say that the distance between the keys is good and we can easily reach every key on the keyboard. On the other hand, the keyboard also has a backlight. There are two different brightness levels, and the highest level is enough to use the keyboard in dark environments. The area just below the keyboard is reserved for an oversized touchpad. This touchpad is so wide that you can comfortably fit five fingers. This makes it easier to use gestures made with more than one finger.Because of its large area, your palms will touch the touchpad while typing, but this will not result in incorrect commands. The slipperiness of the surface is balanced, and the sensitivity is well adjusted.During our experience of the MateBook 16s, the touchpad worked, we didn't need an external mouse. The webcam embedded in the keyboard has been one of the iconic features of Huawei MateBook Series laptops. However, with the MateBook D16, we saw Huawei change its approach to the webcam. The MateBook 16s is also in line with the 2022 model product.Instead of the webcam built into the keyboard on the MateBook 16, the 16s has a webcam above the screen.Since this webcam is at a higher point than the keyboard, it will give you a more straight forward view of your face.Huawei has increased the resolution of the webcam from 720p to 1080p.In addition, there are artificial intelligence supported automatic centering and gaze adjustment features that we see in the D16 2022 model. Thanks to these, the quality and efficiency of video calls increases.Tools like background replacement or blurring are also available in Huawei's proprietary Camera software. It is possible to access all these camera settings and controls via the Huawei Control Panel located on the taskbar in the lower right corner. While the 1080p webcam offers good images in bright environments, its performance in dark environments is satisfactory despite the noise. The wide 88-degree viewing angle also does a good job of fitting people onto the screen when more than one person is sitting at the computer. It is also pleasing to improve the quality of the image provided by the camera without the need for any additional software. The relocation of the camera will only slightly affect the comfort of those who care about their privacy.Previously, a single gesture was all it took to physically turn off the camera.Huawei evaluated the numeric keypad on the MateBook D16 by adding a dedicated camera control button. Here, when you want to physically turn off the webcam, you have to use the Camera tool and turn off the virtual button.Huawei has filled the space left by the webcam with the voice print button.By pressing the dictation key in the middle of the top row of keys, you can activate Windows' voice typing tool, so you can make short text entries by speaking, not typing. In the upper right corner of the keyboard is the power button with fingerprint reader, which is the symbol of Huawei MateBook Series laptops. This unit works fast and it is possible to bypass the lock screen quickly.Just adding the index finger of your right hand will suffice.Coming to the port options, we see that Huawei offers more or less the same options as the MateBook 16 here. However, there is an important difference brought about by the presence of the Intel Core processor. One of the USB-C format ports on the left side has Thunderbolt 4 support. You can easily distinguish this port by the Thunderbolt icon you see next to it.Thus, there is the possibility of high-speed data and image transfer. The other USB-C port also supports USB 3.2 Gen 1.Apart from these two ports, there is an HDMI 2.0 port and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the left edge.On the opposite edge are two USB-A ports with USB 3.2 Gen 1 support. As you can see, you can easily connect your peripheral devices to the MateBook 16s without the need for any adapters.Huawei MateBook 16s has a 16-inch 2.5K FullView display. Thanks to the thin screen bezel, a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent is achieved. Thanks to the bezels that are only 5.2 millimeters thick on the right and left, an edge-to-edge screen view is obtained. The bezel at the top of the screen is also very thin at 7.3 millimeters, moreover, a webcam is placed here, as we mentioned earlier. As in the MateBook 16, the 3:2 aspect ratio is preferred in the 16s.For a productivity-focused laptop like the 16s, this is a pretty good choice. This provides 8 percent more viewing area than a normal 16-inch laptop.More lines make the difference in office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or in creativity-oriented applications such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, while getting more workspace, it is also possible to view more content at a single glance. On the other hand, seeing more lines at a single glance when viewing websites or PDFs is an important factor that increases productivity. The 3:2 display, combined with the 16-inch size, gives you plenty of room to open two application windows side by side at the same time. The 16s' screen has a resolution of 2520 x 1680 pixels and a contrast ratio of 1500:1.In this way, it offers good sharpness and image quality. It supports 100 percent of the sRGB color gamut, with support for 1 billion 70 thousand colors. Thus, the screen offers the opportunity to work with more realistic and high-accuracy colors in Photoshop and similar applications. On the other hand, the hardware-calibrated display, called 3D LUT, ensures that the colors look consistent in different applications. This is a noteworthy detail for those considering the MateBook 16s for photo or video editing.TÜV Rheinland color accuracy certification, meanwhile, confirms the 16s's display's proficiency for productivity-focused work. With a screen brightness of 300 nits, it meets the general average of laptops. It provides a comfortable use both indoors and outdoors.Another important difference of the screen of the MateBook 16s compared to the 16 is that it has 10-finger touchscreen support. As a matter of fact, we didn't look for the touch screen feature in the MateBook 16, but it's nice to see this feature in a product that is a step forward like the 16s.When you don't want to use the touchpad or in your spare time, you can take advantage of the touchscreen while playing various games. In the meantime, considering that the screen will be touched more, Huawei has increased the durability of the glass. This glass has a hardness of 7H.Moreover, it has a smudge and fingerprint resistant coating. On the other hand, double eye comfort mode, which has become a classic on the screens of Huawei MateBook laptops, is also available on the 16s screen. Thanks to TÜV Rheinland certified Low Blue Light and DC dimming technology, users' eyes are fully cared for. Thus, the effects of blue light and screen flickers, which are not good for the eyes, are minimized.Indeed, the MateBook 16's display does not cause eye strain during prolonged use. While the screen of MateBook 16s offers great usability for business, it also meets the needs on the entertainment side.Although there are black bars at the top and bottom of the screen in 16:9 videos, this is not said to be a huge problem.High sharpness and clarity increase the viewing pleasure. The same can be said for games.Audio-side features complement the high-profile display of the Huawei MateBook 16s.Front-facing speakers are placed on either side of the keyboard. This dual speaker system offers impressive surround sound output.Bass is well felt, trebles do not explode at maximum volume.Apart from business use, the MateBook 16s' sound system is exceedingly good for watching movies or listening to music. You do not need any other accessories. While the audio jack on the left side allows you to easily connect headphones or microphones, you can easily connect and use Huawei FreeBuds series headphones or Sound series speakers to the 16s.It is becoming more and more important that laptops have the qualities to enable good communication in online meetings. We talked about the capabilities of the 1080p webcam. The experience is completed with dual microphones with artificial intelligence-assisted noise canceling. This microphone system picks up your voice clearly and intelligibly within a range of 5 meters. It also seems successful at suppressing background noise and reducing echo. The Audio device controls we saw on the Huawei MateBook D16 are also available on the MateBook 16s.You can specify different sound settings for headphones, speakers and microphones by clicking on the Audio devices option in the Control Panel. In this way, it becomes easier for you to obtain the best sound quality according to your request or usage area. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor was preferred in the Huawei MateBook 16, which was released a few months ago.We have seen that this processor and the hardware package that complements it provides a high performance and user experience.Huawei prefers Intel processors in MateBook 16s.Moreover, the 16s carries the Intel Evo label.Intel's Evo program includes models that meet criteria such as high performance, high image and sound quality, fast connection and fast charging, even under heavy workloads. The MateBook 16s, which bears the Evo label next to the touchpad, is also under this roof.MateBook 16s comes with 12th generation Intel Core processors. You can choose between Intel Core i9-12900H or Intel Core i7-12700H processor options. The model we reviewed has a Core i9 processor. This high performance processor is complemented by the Iris Xe internal graphics processing unit, 16 GB LPDDR5 4800MHz RAM and 1 TB SSD.The 1TB SSD is split into two parts, as in every Huawei laptop. The volume of the first piece is not very large, this is the reserved and default C directory for Windows 11 system files. Before you start using it, it may be appropriate to direct the programs you will install and the files you will download to the D directory. If you are a slightly more experienced user, you can also change the volumes of the partitions. The Intel Core i9 processor provides high performance as expected. While photo editing is fast in Photoshop, working in Premiere Pro is also comfortable, and video rendering times are good. Thanks to the 16 GB of RAM, users like us who run many applications and Chrome tabs at the same time will also be comfortable. In terms of gaming, the MateBook 16s performs as expected. It is possible to play games in high resolution and fluency. Moreover, you can play games comfortably even with many applications open in the background, and you can quickly switch to another application such as an e-mail client or internet browser whenever you want.As with every laptop review, we put the MateBook 16s through several benchmark tests at our disposal. When we compare it to the MateBook 16 with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor, which we reviewed, the differences are clear. The base of the MateBook 16s has a large ventilation grille that runs from one edge to the other. The bumpers also provide space between the floor and the surface and help cool the computer's body.On the other hand, Huawei's dual Shark Fin fans help to dissipate the heat inside efficiently to the outside. When we come to the battery side, we see that there is a battery with a capacity of 84Wh.According to Huawei, this battery is enough for up to 9 hours of office work, up to 11 hours of video watching. Our practical experience also shows that the MateBook 16s can reach the values specified by Huawei. It is possible to spend a day from morning to evening on a single charge in a normal working day and with appropriate use.The Core i9 processor version of the MateBook 16s comes with a 135W power adapter, while the Core i7 processor version comes with a 90W power adapter. Our model comes with a 135W adapter, the same thing we know from the MateBook 16 before we see it here. With this adapter, it is possible to charge more than half of the battery in 1 hour.It may be possible to reach levels close to 50 percent in half an hour. You can use the same charging adapter with other Huawei devices that support fast charging. The power adapter is larger than the box of other Huawei MateBook computers, and the cable is longer and has two parts.Still, you can go on trips just by throwing this adapter and cable in the bag.By the way, you can use the USB-C ports of the Huawei MateBook 16s to charge other devices even with the computer lid closed. In this case, you can use the laptop as a powerbank whenever you need it.As a result of the Huawei MateBook 16s being an Intel Evo-labeled laptop, Wi-Fi 6E support is also available. You can reach higher wireless network speeds on Wi-Fi 6 supported devices, including Huawei's AX3 Dual Core and Quad Core routers.Bluetooth 5.2 is also among the current wireless connectivity features of the 16s.Let's also mention that there is NFC support. Thanks to this unit placed on the large-sized touchpad, it is possible to quickly connect with Huawei phones.Huawei MateBook 16s comes with Windows 11 Home installed.Huawei, as always, is frugal with the applications that come pre-installed.You can download the app or game you want from the Microsoft Store.Apart from that, you can easily install any traditional Windows application you want. The PC Manager app that we see on every MateBook Series laptop is the centerpiece of the experience. This app is primarily used to improve the maintenance and performance of the MateBook 16s.In the Performance setting section of Optimization, you will see two options, Performance and Balanced.Balanced, as the name suggests, strikes a balance between performance and battery life.Performance makes the necessary optimizations for maximum performance. However, in order for this mode to be activated, 16s must be connected to the socket. You can get more performance you need by turning on this mode for things like playing games, working in Photoshop or Premiere Pro.If you have a Huawei smartphone, tablet, headset or speaker next to the MateBook 16s, the limit of what you can do with this laptop is vastly expanded. Thanks to the Multi-Screen Collaboration, you can mirror the screen and sound of the smartphone in 16 seconds and manage the phone from the computer. It is also possible to mirror MeeTime conversations to the computer. If you have a Huawei MatePad tablet, it is possible to use it as a second screen next to the 16s.In addition, it is possible to use the tablet as an extension of the computer, to share the keyboard and touchpad between the two devices.Sharing files, photos and clipboards between devices also provides efficiency. On the other hand, thanks to Huawei Share, an easy and fast method of sharing with other Huawei devices is offered. On the other hand, it is possible to connect and start using Huawei's FreeBuds series wireless headphones or Sound series speakers, just as if you were pairing them with smartphones and tablets, without dealing with Windows' Bluetooth pairing settings.Meanwhile, Huawei is offering additional tools to further strengthen the collaboration of its MateBook series notebooks and other devices. Thanks to Multi-Device Collaboration, you can view the files of the connected Huawei smartphone or tablet as a separate drive in Windows Explorer and move files easily.Huawei Mobile Application Engine, on the other hand, allows you to run the applications you use on Huawei phones and tablets over 16s by installing Huawei AppGallery on the computer. Thus, you can continue to use the applications that you have acquired the habit of using on the phone or tablet on the computer. There are also some tools that we know from Huawei smartphones and tablets. For example, the Control Panel, located in the lower right corner of the screen, provides easy access to various tools and controls. You can also use this Control Panel to quickly connect to nearby devices such as Huawei phones, tablets, headphones, which are called Super Devices. In a column that opens from the right side of the screen, you can see Huawei's Assistant Today interface and access news and clipboard history from here.Huawei MateBook 16s exceeds the expectations of users in almost every aspect.First of all, it has a useful design, it is a laptop that really pays for its price with the quality of materials chosen and its appearance. With its high resolution large screen, rich color support and eye-friendly features, it provides comfortable use in long-term workflows.Units such as keyboard, touchpad, fingerprint reader, webcam, speaker, microphone have the quality and usability befitting a high-end laptop. While the rich port options do not require the use of an external adapter, the presence of a Thunderbolt 4 supported port can also be considered as a pleasing element. One of the important factors is that this laptop has Intel Evo certification. The Core i9 processor option we tested successfully handles busy workflows. Moreover, the cooling system prevents the laptop from overheating even during intense work. With high battery capacity and optimizations, the device's battery can reach a performance that can last a day.The power adapter that Huawei added to the box not only fills the battery quickly, but also successfully meets the energy needs of the Core i9 processor. While the MateBook 16s is a capable and useful laptop on its own, if you have other Huawei-branded devices at your disposal, its offerings are even greater.Opportunities such as mirroring the smartphone's screen and speaker, using the tablet as a second screen, easily transferring files between devices, connecting headphones or speakers effortlessly, are supported by the Huawei MateBook 16s, a "Super Device".If you want a high-performance, powerful Windows 11 PC and you're on a high budget, the MateBook 16s can be at the top of your review list with its features and capabilities.Buy Huawei MateBook 16s from Huawei Online StoreSubscribe to the Technoblog
