The channel of all VenezuelansThe headquarters of the United Nations Organization (UN) in New York and digital platforms, will address this Wednesday the Revitalization event: collective action for the ocean, with the participation of several countries of the multilateral organization.According to the Prensa Latina web portal, the meeting takes place on the occasion of World Oceans Day, just when the United Nations calls for collective action from different sectors, to revitalize marine ecosystems, on which millions of lives depend.In reference, the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, asked to commit to working together with nature and guaranteeing a healthy and productive ocean for future generations.Likewise, the owner expressed that he grew up with a special relationship with the sea and stated: "It hurts me how human activities are destroying ocean resources and biodiversity."According to scientific data, the ocean covers more than 70 percent of the planet and is a source of livelihood for millions of people.It also produces 50 percent of the oxygen on Earth, is home to most of the biodiversity, and is the main source of protein for more than a billion individuals around the world.By 2030, according to UN data, it is estimated that there will be an estimated 40 million people with jobs in ocean-based industries.The UN warned: “We are extracting more than can be replenished, with the vast majority of large fish species depleted and half of coral reefs destroyed.At the same time, the international organization called to work together, to create a new balance and restore its vitality.In 1992, as part of the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the idea of celebrating a day that would highlight the value of this immense mass of water was proposed for the first time;however, it was not until 2008 that the UN Assembly agreed on June 8.The objective was to make public opinion aware of the consequences that human activity has for this body of water and launch a movement in favor of its beauty, richness and potential.
